Junior Kindergarten

Walled Lake Consolidated Schools is excited to offer our families Junior Kindergarten for the 2024-2025 school year! Junior Kindergarten will support kindergarten readiness through a play-based curriculum. Our program will cultivate academic and social-emotional learning along with opportunities for play, creativity, and social skill development.

Kindergarten Dental, Hearing and Vision Screenings Available

Dental, hearing and vision screenings are required for all incoming kindergarten students. For more information, visit our Health and Immunization webpage.

To schedule your hearing and vision screening at the Oakland County Health Department, please call (248) 424-7070. Dental screenings can be scheduled online or by calling the Oakland County Health Department at (800) 848-5533.

Welcome to Kindergarten!

Incoming kindergartners must be five-years-old on or before September 1, 2024.

Exception: According to Michigan Law, a child may be enrolled in kindergarten if he/she is not five years of age on September 2, 2024, but will be five years of age not later than December 1, 2024 and parent or legal guardian notifies the school district in writing (Kindergarten Waiver Form) that they intends to enroll the child in kindergarten.

Research indicates that developmentally appropriate full-day schedules benefit kindergarten children academically, socially and emotionally. Our principals and teachers understand this and are well equipped to meet the needs of our kindergarten students.

Our kindergarten students begin to learn a whole host of reading, writing and mathematics concepts and learning strategies that give them the foundation for a successful elementary school career in Walled Lake Schools.

2024-25 Registration Information

Kindergarten parents are invited to register for the 2024-2025 school year starting on March 14, 2024 by using our EZ-Registration.

Please view our Criteria for Enrollment prior to beginning the registration process.

*Note: three proofs of residency are required.

Attention Junior Kindergarten Parents: You do NOT need to enroll your current Junior Kindergartener into Kindergarten. They will automatically be placed into their home/attendance area school for Kindergarten for the 2024-2025 School Year.

My child is not due to have his/her immunizations updated until the summer. Should I wait until then to enroll?

No, don’t wait.

My child has not had their vision screening or hearing tested yet. Should I wait to enroll?

No, don’t wait. It is Michigan law that every kindergartner has a vision screening and a hearing test before they can start school. You may turn that proof in at your child’s school before school starts.

After I complete the pre-enrollment online registration process, will the enrollment office contact me?

Yes, you will received a confirmation of enrollment email as soon as your enrollment has been processed. Please be patient. This may take a few weeks during the summer months.

What if I do not have the required documents?

What if I can’t find my child’s original birth certificate?

We will accept a copy of the original birth certificate. It is recommended that you still get an original certified copy, which you may need for other reasons at a later date. You can go to the county of your child’s birth or order a replacement certified birth certificate online.

Will you accept a Baptismal Certificate or Hospital Certificate as the birth record?

No, we need the child's birth certificate.

How old does my child have to be to enroll in kindergarten?

No, you only need to complete a kindergarten waiver if your child turns five years old September 2 thru December 1.

Can I sign a kindergarten waiver if my child is turning five after December 1?

No, December 1 is the cut-off date.

Is there a deadline to complete the kindergarten waiver?

No, there is no deadline to complete the kindergarten waiver.

What happens if I wait until summer to enroll?

Adequate staffing is a complicated process. In order for us to be appropriately prepared for your child, it is important to enroll as early as possible.
